Overview
Beta-casein is an important milk protein encoded by the CSN2 gene. This analysis profiles key beta-casein variants, including A1, A2, A3, B, C, I and H2. It combines the practical A2 question with broader extended CSN2 allele typing of the beta-casein profile.
This information is valuable for breeders and dairy producers because cows produce the beta-casein variants they genetically carry. An animal with two A2 alleles produces A2 beta-casein, while a heterozygous animal produces a mixture of the variants present. extended CSN2 allele typing helps identify more complex combinations correctly.
The result supports selection for milk protein composition, product positioning, planned matings and strategic dairy breeding decisions.
