Overview
This qPCR test examines animal samples for the presence of Salmonella spp. DNA. Salmonella bacteria can occur in many animal species and are also relevant from a zoonotic perspective.
The test is useful for diagnosis, monitoring or control when shedding or contamination is suspected. A positive result indicates detection of Salmonella DNA in the tested sample; interpretation should consider the sample type, clinical context and any additional testing.
In some cases, an enrichment culture is performed first; the turnaround time is then one day longer.
