Genetic test for the LCORL C/T height marker that helps estimate expected adult withers height in horses.
Overview
This genetic test analyses the LCORL C/T height marker, an important marker for adult withers height in horses. The test is especially useful in Warmblood-type, Thoroughbred and Iberian lines where the relationship between this marker and height is practically informative.
Height is a multifactorial trait: genetics, nutrition, rearing and other growth factors together shape the final adult size. The LCORL marker therefore does not give an exact centimetre value, but it does provide a clear genetic indication for a lower, intermediate or higher height category.
The result helps breeders plan matings more deliberately, estimate young horses earlier and align selection with sport goals, breeding goals or a preferred adult height. In foals and young horses this can be valuable before the mature height is visible.
Included subanalyses
This analysis includes the following subanalysis:
Allele combinations & result interpretations
Below, for each tested locus, you will find the possible allele combinations that may be reported within this analysis, together with a brief explanation of their genetic meaning. The interpretation of possible interactions between different loci is included in the report, but is not shown here in full because that would lead to too many combinations on this page. The final expression may also depend on other genes and their interaction.
Genotype / allele combination: TT - lower height category
The horse has the TT genotype for the tested LCORL height marker. In suitable horse lines, this gives the lower genetic prediction for adult withers height.
Genotype / allele combination: CT - intermediate height category
The horse has one C allele for the tested LCORL marker. This gives an intermediate genetic prediction for adult withers height and is useful for targeted mating plans.
Genotype / allele combination: CC - higher height category
The horse has two C alleles for the tested LCORL marker. This gives the higher genetic prediction for adult withers height in suitable horse lines.
