DNA panel for three CORIN variants that cause Gold, Sunshine, Extreme Sunshine and Copper coat modifications in cats.
Overview
This DNA panel assesses three CORIN variants that cause gold-like coat modifications in cats: c.2383C>T for Sunshine, c.839G>A for Extreme Sunshine and c.2425C>T for Copper. The trait is also known as gold, copper, sunshine, extreme sunshine, wideband and golden tabby modification. CORIN variants influence the wideband pattern, enlarging the yellow band in agouti hairs and making the coat appear warmer gold, copper or blond.
The panel structure is useful because different CORIN alleles can produce similar golden tones but are not the same allele. The result helps breeders understand which specific gold, copper or sunshine variant is present and which combinations can be expected.

Allele combinations & result interpretations
Below, for each tested locus, you will find the possible allele combinations that may be reported within this analysis, together with a brief explanation of their genetic meaning. The interpretation of possible interactions between different loci is included in the report, but is not shown here in full because that would lead to too many combinations on this page. The final expression may also depend on other genes and their interaction.
Genotype / allele combination: Clear
The tested variant for Sunshine (CORIN) was not detected. The cat is clear for this variant and will not pass it on.
Genotype / allele combination: Carrier
The cat carries one copy of the variant for Sunshine (CORIN). This is important for breeding plans because the variant can be passed to offspring.
Genotype / allele combination: Trait expressed
The cat has two copies of the tested variant. This genotype causes Sunshine (CORIN), with other coat-colour and pattern loci potentially influencing the final appearance.
Genotype / allele combination: Clear
The tested variant for Extreme Sunshine (CORIN) was not detected. The cat is clear for this variant and will not pass it on.
Genotype / allele combination: Carrier
The cat carries one copy of the variant for Extreme Sunshine (CORIN). This is important for breeding plans because the variant can be passed to offspring.
Genotype / allele combination: Trait expressed
The cat has two copies of the tested variant. This genotype causes Extreme Sunshine (CORIN), with other coat-colour and pattern loci potentially influencing the final appearance.
Genotype / allele combination: Clear
The tested variant for Copper (CORIN) was not detected. The cat is clear for this variant and will not pass it on.
Genotype / allele combination: Carrier
The cat carries one copy of the variant for Copper (CORIN). This is important for breeding plans because the variant can be passed to offspring.
Genotype / allele combination: Trait expressed
The cat has two copies of the tested variant. This genotype causes Copper (CORIN), with other coat-colour and pattern loci potentially influencing the final appearance.
