Genetic test for Asphalt (EDNRB2-related) - Ball python.

Overview
Asphalt is a ball python (Python regius) phenotype within the Yellowbelly complex. Its inheritance is incompletely dominant, meaning animals with one copy of the variant can express the trait, while animals with two copies typically show a stronger visual expression. In the hobby, a homozygous Asphalt is often referred to as Super Asphalt.
Molecular data show that Asphalt is an allele within an EDNRB2 series that also includes Yellowbelly, Spark, Specter, and Gravel. This test detects the Asphalt-associated EDNRB2 c.3118G>A variant, providing useful genetic support for phenotype interpretation.
This analysis is especially valuable when an animal is visually difficult to distinguish from similar phenotypes such as Gravel. Genetic confirmation can help clarify combinations and support more informed breeding plans.
Included subanalyses
This analysis includes the following subanalysis:
Phenotypes
Allele combinations & result interpretations
Below, for each tested locus, you will find the possible allele combinations that may be reported within this analysis, together with a brief explanation of their genetic meaning. The interpretation of possible interactions between different loci is included in the report, but is not shown here in full because that would lead to too many combinations on this page. The final expression may also depend on other genes and their interaction.
Genotype / allele combination: Wildtype/Wildtype (GG)
This animal does not carry the tested EDNRB2-associated Asphalt variant. Other alleles in the Yellow Belly complex or other colour and pattern factors can still influence the final appearance.
Genotype / allele combination: Wildtype/Asphalt (GA)
This animal carries one copy of the tested EDNRB2-associated Asphalt variant. One copy can already influence colour or pattern in this series and can be passed on to offspring. The visible result can still vary, especially in combination with other alleles in the Yellow Belly complex.
Genotype / allele combination: Asphalt/Asphalt (AA)
This animal has two copies of the tested EDNRB2-associated Asphalt variant. That supports stronger expression of this specific allele and this variant will be passed on to offspring. The final appearance can still vary because of other colour and pattern factors.
